Selfie stocks banned in london Venues

They’re becoming one of the must-have accessories for the dedicated social media user, but the rise of the selfie stick might be nipped in the bud this week – some of London’s leading concert venues have banned them, over fears they block the view of the stage and could injure other gig-goers.

Staff at top music halls in the UK capital – including Wembley Arena, the O2 Arena, and Brixton Academy – will now refuse to allow entry to anyone with said telescopic phone-manipulator.

A spokesman for the O2 Arena told the Brit music website that they’re putting the block on selfie sticks “due to safety considerations. We welcome selfies, but please leave the stick at home.” A spokesman for Brixton Academy says their ban is“in keeping with our existing policy that prohibits the filming and photography during a performance with iPads and other tablet devices, and includes any such obstructions for the satisfaction of other customers,” while a representative for Wembley Arena said, “The sticks might mean you are refused entry to the venue, so our advice is don’t bring them – and stick with the tried and tested use of an arm.”
