Japanese culture on show

A Japanese Pop Culture Festival featuring workshops and film screenings will open tomorrow at Bahrain National Museum.

The event, organised by the Japanese Embassy in co-operation with the Culture Ministry, follows on from the success of last year’s Japan Film Festival.

The first film, Five Centimetres Per Second, with English subtitles will be screened tomorrow at 8pm at the museum.

The film is about two friends, Takaki and Akari, who are reunited after years apart.

On December 3, a workshop with Japanese award-winning computer-generated imagery artist Hiroyuki Hayashida will be held at the museum. The workshop, in Arabic, will start at 8pm, with Japanese translations and will also feature Bahraini artist Khalid Al Muharraqi.

On December 11, Japanese animation film Chibi Maruko Chan will be screened at the museum at 8pm.

The Japanese-language film, about a group of friends, will have English subtitles. Admission is free to all events.
