A MAJOR plan to ensure smooth traffic flow for the Gulf Air Bahrain Formula One Grand Prix is in place.

Traffic director-general Shaikh Nasser bin Abdulrahman Al Khalifa said more personnel will be deployed to meet the rush on main highways leading to Bahrain International Circuit (BIC), Sakhir.

He said a temporary accident office will operate at the BIC’s parking No 10 from 7am until midnight. Parking No 10 will be allocated for buses and parking No 9 for taxis.

He said the directorate is co-ordinating with Police Aviation and other Interior Ministry departments to monitor traffic flow.

All main roads and junctions will be monitored on screens set up in the operations room. More lanes will be opened on main roads leading to the BIC, and more personnel will be deployed at King Fahad Causeway to facilitate the entry of visitors.

He also called on fans to follow traffic instructions, arrive at the BIC early, bring their tickets and ensure their parking stickers are on their cars for smooth entry.

In case of accidents, motorists are urged to call the hotline 199.

Meanwhile, Public Security chief Major General Tariq Al Hassan yesterday visited BIC to follow up security preparations ahead of the Grand Prix this weekend.

BIC chairman Zayed Rashid Al Zayani and senior officials were present.
