Find a Question:
The cheapest bazaar – a big mall for the poor
Dec

2014
The cheapest bazar of Bahrain, set up at a very odd location in the capital is attracting a large number of poor people during the winter season.
According to the reports this is an unconventional bazaar, which claims to sell the “cheapest items in the Kingdom”, is flourishing day by day.
Toys, home appliances, clothes, shoes and other many items are being sold in the bazaar for prices as low as half a dinar. The sellers, mainly the unemployed men from Bangladesh, said that the items are not new “but usable”. Upon closer inspection, many of the items seemed to be damaged. Anyhow the sellers would offer discounts on those items.
Most items are sold for 0.5 and 1 dinar, although certain items are priced at 2 BD or more.
“You will not be able to find anything cheaper than what is available here. Most of what we sell here are good quality items despite it being the second hand.” says a seller.
Bangladeshi national Hakeem Ali who lives in the area said that he regularly comes shopping at the bazaar. “I think for low income workers this is a great place to shop. Anyone can afford these items.”
