Skateboard ramp hole spurs alarm

AUTHORITIES yesterday vowed to restrict access to a skateboard ramp after pictures of a large hole in its centre were circulated online.

It is reportedly located in the Khalifa bin Salman Park, Hidd, and Muharraq Municipality director general Saleh Al Fadhala vowed action after images of it appeared on Twitter.

‘I was surprised that the damaged skating board has been left open to the public, especially children,’ Mr Al Fadhala told the GDN.

‘The maintenance company is responsible for the maintenance of the park and is supposed to have monitors in the play areas.

‘We have restricted access to the skating board and the company has been asked to fix the problem within a day.

‘As per the terms and conditions in the maintenance contract, the contractor will be held accountable for the situation.

‘It is surprising that this incident was overlooked ‘“ which is totally unacceptable as it could lead to dangerous accidents,’ he pointed out.

The GDN had reported last week that a major review of safety at public parks in the Northern Governorate was underway after nine-year-old Mahmood Abdullatif was crushed under a goal-post frame while playing in the Janabiya Public Park.

Municipality director-general Yousif Al Ghatam had stated that all facilities in public parks, gardens, walkways and beaches in that governorate would be inspected to assess safety.
