If you guys actually bothered to read a little bit MORE about Bahrain history – and not limit yourselves to the last 200 yrs you would see that during its history it was called by different names such as Awal, then Mishmahig, when it was a part of the Persian Empire.

From the 3rd to 6th century BC, Bahrain WAS included in the Persian Empire by Achaemenians, an Iranian dynasty.

From the 3rd century BC to the arrival of Islam in the 7th century AD, Bahrain was controlled by two other Iranian dynasties of Parthians and Sassanids. By about 250 BC, Parthian dynasty brought the Persian Gulf under their control and extended their influence as far as Oman.

- From British protectorate December 16, 1971

And with reference to @AlReem’s point saying it is the Arabian Gulf:
On almost all maps printed before 1960, and in most modern international treaties, documents and maps, this body of water is known by the name “Persian Gulf”.
Arab countries also used the term “Persian Gulf” until the 1960s, but with the rise of Arab nationalism during that decade, some Arab countries, including the ones bordering the Persian Gulf, adopted widespread use of the term “الخليج العربي” (al-Ḫalīj al-ʻArabiyy; Arab Gulf or Arabian Gulf) to refer to this waterway.

SO… yes It was ruled by the Persians, and got independence in 1783!!
