A BAHRAINI family has been left distraught after the father, who had been missing for three days, was found dead in Muharraq yesterday.

Mohammed Ali Watheqi, 60, was last seen by a group of his friends waiting for a taxi near Bab Al Bahrain on Sunday night.

Police confirmed his body was found at 2.16am in a cabin inside the pedestrian overpass on Al Ghous Avenue.

An Interior Ministry official confirmed he died of natural causes.

Mr Watheqi, who had been retired for seven years after working as an electrician for most of his life, was buried in Muharraq yesterday.

He lived in Dair with his wife, three sons and two daughters.

His family had earlier visited police stations, hospitals and medical centres across Bahrain in the search for him.

Two of Mr Watheqi’s sons, Ali and Hameed, had also issued appeals on Twitter and Facebook to help find their father, whose sight had been deteriorating and had not driven a car for more than a year for safety reasons.

“The police called us very early in the morning and told us they found my father,” said Hameed.

“They found him near the sea but they didn’t explain what happened to him.

“They told us that they took samples and would be able to tell us the cause of death soon.

“He was a good man and it is really hurting the whole family that he is dead.

“We are just trying to deal with this news now. “But it is very hard.”
