A MOBILE phone application that could potentially save lives is being developed by one of Bahrain’s biggest charity organisations.

The Bahrain Red Crescent Society (BRCS) has commissioned a third party developer to design the new app, which will provide first aid advice and help people react better in emergencies.

It is the brainchild of the society’s general secretary Dr Fawzi Abdulla Amin and will offer instructions on what to do in a variety of situations.

‘The app is based on first aid learning and will soon be available in the Apple Store and the Play Store, on both iPhone and Android,’ said BRCS information technology consultant Ahmed Edress.

‘It has been in development for almost a year I think and will be rolled out in two stages ‘“ first the English, then the Arabic.’

He said the idea was to counter a lack of first aid awareness in Bahrain, which could in turn potentially save lives.

‘Through the app users will be able to learn how to react to cases of a heart attack or a burn, a cut and even if a person stops breathing,’ said Mr Edress.

‘It will give easy-to-follow instruction on what to do if an accident has occurred and even tell people what to look for and how.

‘It will help save lives as it will tell you things to do while waiting for an ambulance, depending on the emergency.’

No release date has been confirmed, but the app is expected to be available within the next few months.
