GCC theatre festival begins

THE third GCC Theatre Festival for the Handicapped opened yesterday at the Cultural Hall under the patronage of Deputy Premier Shaikh Ali bin Khalifa Al Khalifa.

He affirmed the keenness of the government, led by HRH the Premier, to extend all help to people with disabilities.

Shaikh Ali highlighted the government’s efforts to ensure that physical disabilities do not hamper creativity and innovation.

He described the GCC festival as an opportunity to showcase successful theatre works and promote an inclusive culture which engages people with disabilities and helps their social integration.

Social Development Minister Dr Fatima Al Balooshi thanked Shaikh Ali for patronising the event. The festival runs until Tuesday and six plays will be staged, one for each of the six GCC member states. Yemen is also taking part in the festival.
