Fog forces closure of Abu Dhabi International Airport

Etihad Airways said on Saturday it has resumed limited operations to and from Abu Dhabi following disruptions caused early this morning by severe fog.

The airport was closed at 2.30am causing disruption to flights by all airlines, the airline said in a statement. It was the third closure in a matter of weeks due to fog.

Etihad Airways said that it diverted seven inbound flights to three airports in the UAE and delayed the arrival and departures of other services.

A total of 20 flights were cancelled and a number of flights on Sunday have been rescheduled.

“Following the airport’s re-opening at 3.40am, most of the diverted flights proceeded to Abu Dhabi, while delayed flights have begun departing,” said the statement.

“Flights are being rescheduled to carry passengers to their final destination as soon as possible, and extra staff have been sent to Abu Dhabi International Airport to assist delayed passengers.”

The airline advised its passengers to contact the Etihad Airways Contact Centre on +971 (0) 2599 0000 or visit the Etihad Airways website for more information on the status of flights in and out of Abu Dhabi Airport.

Etihad Airways apologised for the inconvenience caused during the day.
