Dubai’s RTA Responds to Metro Disruption

Don’t worry, metro users, RTA has you covered! The Road and Transport Authority responded very quickly to reports of a disruption on the metro line after a truck tyre reportedly fell onto the tracks, a senior official said.

According to Mohammad Yousuf Al Mudharreb, director of operations at the RTA’s Rail Agency, the response team arrived at the scene within 15 minutes of the alert that there was an object on the tracks between the Jebal Ali and Danube stations.

RTA Control Room officials received the report at around 5am, during what they refer to as a routine ‘security sweep’ of the tracks before the day’s service begins – which is done on both Red and Green lines in both directions of the track.

On the morning of 21 July, the train stopped automatically and sent an alert to the Control Room. The team responded because, if the object is big, said Mr. Mudharreb, it needs to be assessed.

He added that the rail agency must carry out investigations concerning any such disruptions, and that they always keep contingency plans, involving several other RTA departments, to ensure that commuters are not heavily affected by the problem.

Investigations carried out by the RTA team showed that the disruptions had occurred because a tyre had fallen onto the metro line, causing some damage to the tracks, after an accident between a truck and a vehicle on the bridge intersection near Jebal Ali Metro Station.

After some investigations, RTA suspended the metro service on one side of the tracks at some of the stations in order to ensure safety, Mudharreb added.

The disruptions caused by the incident were minimal, as the section in which the damage occurred carries less traffic than other areas. Train users were asked to board the trains for both the Rashidiya and Jebal Ali directions through one platform only.

RTA also sent out a series of tweets on its Twitter account to inform commuters of the incident and to keep Dubai residents updated about the status of the metro lines.
