Cycling touring in Middle East

I am an expat based in Bahrain and keen to go on a cycling trip (I have a TREK500) somewhere close by. Does anyone know of any operators that offer this or a good place to go? I was thinking Oman but not sure if it would be safe for cyclist on his own in remote areas?
