Company set to take over bus service

A NEW company will take over operation of the national bus service on February 15, it was revealed yesterday.

The joint venture between the UK’s National Express and Ahmed Mansour Al Aali is replacing CARS Public Transport Company.

It will not commence full operations at the existing 12 bus stations until April 1, but there are plans to increase the number of stations to 32 by August 1.

‘The new company will cover 32 (bus) stations on August 1, which would be across all of Bahrain’s governorates,’ said Transportation and Telecommunications Minister Kamal Ahmed, who is also the Economic Development Board acting chief executive.

The new company will operate the service for 10 years and network coverage is expected to increase to around 77 per cent of the country.
