British serviceman saves Bahrain woman

A BRITISH soldier has been credited with saving the life of a Bahrain woman injured in a jet ski accident.

Royal Marine medic Corporal Wayne Tomlinson was off duty at Coral Bay in Manama when the incident happened.

He was taking a break from training with the Bahraini military when the woman fell off her jet ski and banged her head.

‘He immediately ran to the water’s edge where he found a woman in her 20s unconscious and motionless having been pulled from the sea by family members,’ the British Embassy said in a statement.

The statement said the serviceman discovered the woman had stopped breathing and her heart had stopped, but she survived after he carried out cardiopulmonary resuscitation.

‘I am just grateful that I was in the right place at the right time,’ said Corporal Tomlinson, who serves with B Company, 40 Commando, and lives in Rossendale, Lancashire.

‘The Royal Marines gave me the training to be able to save lives and I can do that both on the battlefield and in everyday life.’

The serviceman was nominated for the Sun Military Award last year after saving the lives of four Afghan boys following an improvised explosive device blast in Gereshk, Afghanistan.
