Arab Open University’s new campus opens

Arab Open University’s new campus in A’Ali opened last night under the patronage of His Majesty King Hamad.

The university was opened by His Majesty’s personal representative Shaikh Abdulla bin Hamad Al Khalifa, in the presence of Prince Turki bin Talal bin Abdulaziz Al Suad, the personal representative of the university’s chairman Prince Talal bin Abdulaziz Al Suad and Education Minister Dr Majid Al Nuaimi.

‘The presence of this university adds to the improvement of university education in Bahrain and enhances the process of evolution and development,’ Shaikh Abdulla said.

‘It also contributes to the broader field of study in various disciplines, which will enable us to meet the requirements of the labour market.’

Dr Al Nuaimi said it was essential to promote investment in the field of higher education.

‘Establishing any new higher education establishment in our country is a win-win situation to promote investment in this vital sector and strengthen its infrastructure,’ Dr Al Nuaimi said during the ceremony.

University director Dr Moothi Al Hamood said that the Arab world is witnessing an exponential growth in higher education excellence, adding she was proud that the Arab Open University was contributing to that growth.

The university will accommodate 3,000 students and cost just under $17.5 million to build.

It used to be located in Sehla, but university officials previously denied that the move was a result of the violence in the area, while admitting that the new location was ‘safer’.
